When I first started using Google+ I’ll have to admit, I was one of those people who just didn’t get it. It felt very foreign to me and I resisted getting on board the G+ train. Flash forward a couple of years and I’m all in. So much so, that my first tech tip on this blog will be on Google+
One of those leftover annoyances from the early days of Google+ is the autorandomically generated URL it gives your profile and all other Google+ pages.
For instance, if you were to go to:
This would take you to Alice Keeler’s Google+ posts, but how are you supposed to know 104856214240920369453 = Alice Keeler. There should be a better way, maybe a way to personalize your Google+ URL?
Well, in typical Google fashion, ever so quietly they added the ability to do this. Head over to your Google+ profile page and have a look. Do you see the blue Get URL Button?
If you don’t have the “Get URL” Button, you may not be eligible for the custom URL. Don’t panic, just read the Support Page to find out how you can qualify.
So once you click on the button, it’s super easy but I’ll show you what happens just in-case.
The nice thing about my name is that it is short (not long) but unfortunately this crushes my dreams of getting custom URLs with just my name : ( So as you can see I needed to add a few extra characters to get a unique URL.
